Dates for your diary
School closed for midterm break from 27th October – 2nd November
Intel Mini-Scientist Competition for 5th & 6th classes – 19th November

School Closures
We will have our usual dress up day this Friday in school and look forward to seeing the children dressing up in either fancy dress costumes or recycle outfits in line with our Green School efforts. All parents are invited to our Hallowe’en assemblies to celebrate the end of this half term.

Parents of children from Junior Infants to 2nd classes are invited along at 9:30am for our junior assembly in the hall. Parents of 3rd to 6th classes are invited to our senior assembly at 1:30pm in the hall. We hope you can make an extra effort to come along.

School will close on Friday at the usual time and for the following week for our midterm break. It has been a busy half term and I know the children will enjoy the rest and in particular the fun over the week. We return to CETNS on Monday 3rd November at 9am.

Learn Together & Anti-Bullying Assemblies
Over the past few weeks the children have been looking at a variety of anti-bullying scenarios and in particular at strategies to use if we find ourselves in situations where we are uncomfortable. The children in 5th classes showed us some scenes of bullying which we may not have realised are bullying situations and the children in 1st classes showed us how we can be better friends to each other. We will keep working on making CETNS a Bully-Free Zone and ensuring we are all safe and happy every day.

Check out our assembly blog for 1st class on http://www.cetns.ie/2014/10/17/first-class-blog-2/ & our 5th class assembly on http://www.cetns.ie/2014/10/17/diwali-anti-bullying-assembly/
Thank you kindly, Jen & JP

Sponsored Walk (Fundraising) at CETNS
Our CETNS sponsored walk took place last Friday to raise funds for the school. We headed off up Beechpark Avenue in the sunshine and our children set off in high spirits on the walk. As we took a left turn at St Brigid’s School and headed through the estate to Auburn Avenue we had a lovely walk among the leaves. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and the buddies were an inspiration to the younger children in the school. Parents and younger siblings joined us on the walk too. We arrived back at the school for our school picnic which took place in our classrooms and everyone was grateful for the popcorn and juice when we got back.

The best thing was the weather was very kind to us and we raised lots of money for the school. The total sum collected so far is €6,570.93 and we know there is a little left to come in yet. We hope to have a final figure by Friday and will text everyone. Thank you to Tadhg from Pinergy for sponsoring the walk.

Thank you all so kindly for your very generous support, Board of Management

Book Focus at CETNS
Last week we had an emphasis on literacy activities throughout the school and the children had great fun designing their favourite book covers, reading lots and also taking part in lots of book activities. The Celtic Travelling Book Fair also took place and we raised €3135 in book sales and made a contribution of €1881 worth of books for the school and class libraries. The parents who were available to help out were great to give up their time and the children really enjoyed the experience over the few days and got some new books and novelties too.
Thank you kindly, Sharon

Parent-Teacher Association AGM
Every year the PTA elects a new PTA committee. Some fliers were sent home in the schoolbags last week and the PTA AGM took place last night. The movie night was arranged for the children in order to enable parents to attend the meeting. The PTA AGM was very well attended. Thank you to the outgoing PTA members who arranged this evening and we hope many of you who made the effort to come along and participate in this important aspect of our school life felt it was worthwhile.

We would like to wish the new PTA the very best in the coming year.

Aladdin & Database Information
We re-issued some new forms to households for children who have not yet returned forms for our database. If you have not yet returned the form with (or without) changes to your child’s information please do so before Friday as this will allow us to update our database information and ensure the school can look after your child in the event of an emergency.

Parents have been using our new online payments facility in the school over the past few weeks and you can access the link for this on the home page of our website at https://www.aladdin.ie/p/12451037
Thank you kindly to those parents who have paid the resources monies so far this year. If you are having financial difficulties please contact Aedín/Paula in confidence at the school office.

Safety at Hallowe’en Talk
Our local Community Garda Oliver O’Reilly visited 3rd to 6th classes today to talk to the children about the dangers of fireworks at Hallowe’en and in particular the safety risks around this time of year. This was an important part of preparing for trick or treating if children participate in this custom over our midterm break.
We wish to thank Garda Oliver for taking the time to visit with us.

Trip to Draíocht
David, Aoife & Éadaoin’s classes went to Draíocht a couple of weeks ago to see ‘The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy’. The children assure me they really enjoyed the play and thought the story of Cheeseboy was fantastic and well worth the visit. 6th class got a last minute invitation to the show and were delighted with the unexpected treat.

Liz’s 5th class are heading to Draíocht tomorrow for a workshop on Hallowe’en Art and they are looking forward to participating in the day.

Enrolments
CETNS operates a first-come, first-served enrolment policy. It is important to enrol all children including siblings as there are no discretionary places available. We will be offering places for incoming junior infants 2015 after we return from the break.

Board of Management Update
The Board of Management are meeting tomorrow evening and will be circulating an update for the school community as soon as possible. We will send a text to parents to indicate these updates will be in the children’s schoolbags.

PTA Update
The PTA would like to thank those parents that came along to the AGM. We are grateful that members of the Board of Management were able to speak. Thanks to the PTA committee members that have stepped down, their help and input throughout the year was invaluable and the new committee looks forward to continuing their good work.
We hope that the children enjoyed the Wallace & Gromit “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” movie. It is available on Netflix if they want to watch it again.

Keep an eye on the PTA Facebook page over the mid-term break as there will be a few suggestions of activities during the break.

On behalf of all the staff at CETNS we would like to wish all children in our school and their families a happy and restful break over the next week and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed back here on November 3rd.
