Apologies for the delay in posting about the homework. Before Christmas the children were learning one sound per week. We have now started learning 4 new sounds a week.
This week we revised s, a, t, i, p, and n and we learned 3 new sounds. These were c/k, e and h. Next week we will be doing r, m, d and g.
The junior infant homework every night is to practice their sounds in their sound copy. We would encourage you to use the following activities when practicing their sounds each night.
- say each sound out loud
- think of words that have the sound at the start, in the middle and at the end of the word
- draw pictures of the words they come up with on the relevant sound page (you can draw them if they find this difficult)
- trace the letter with their finger
- practice writing the letter.
Below is an example of how a page in the sound copy could look.
Please remember to use the sound of each letter and not the letter names. The Jolly Phonics songs are also on YouTube if your child would like to listen to them for extra practice.
Please come and talk to us if your child has lost their sound copy and we can replace them.
