Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend and please remember to ensure children have sunscreen on over the next number of weeks when necessary.

We hope you have downloaded the CETNS App as this will keep you updated on all CETNS news and events. We will no longer need to be as reliant on the text-a-parent facility which will be a cost saving for the school. The app can be downloaded from Google Play free of charge. Just look for the iClassCMS app, install it on your phone/tablet look for Castleknock Educate Together and create a user. You will be asked to put in your child’s name and class also. If you have a few children in the school you can sign up with each child to receive notifications regarding each of your children.

Art Exhibition

Yet again the CETNS art exhibition was a huge success. It is one of the highlights of our last term in school and a testament to the hard work of both children and staff. Have a look at some of the beautiful images here photographed by Ruth who puts a lot of work into the exhibition annually. Keep an eye on our Gallery over the next few days as more images will be uploaded. Thank you to all who helped before & after the exhibition. The children enjoyed reading the comments in their comment book.

Eason’s Spelling Bee

My day at the Eason’s Spelling Bee Competition.

On Wednesday 18th of May, I took part in the Eason Spelling Bee competition. I left school at ten past ten and went to the Red Cow Hotel. When I arrived I thought the hotel was very fancy. There were eighty 5th and 6th class children from schools all over Dublin. We were all given a yellow Spelling Bee T-Shirt to wear and a badge with our name and number, I was number 14. We were brought into a fancy ballroom that was filled top to toe with chairs. After 15 minutes, the competition started.

The judges wanted us to start off easy, so they did a practice spelling round. After that the first knockout round started. Three rounds in and it was getting pretty tough. By then there were only half of the children left in the competition. I survived until the 6th round, but we were dropping like flies and I was eventually knocked out. It was a really fun experience to take part and it was a great way to improve my confidence. So to sum it up, I think everyone should try a Spelling Bee competition. You could do one at home. All you need are some friends and a dictionary. You can learn some new words and have fun at the same time!

Resources Monies

There are a number of resources payments still outstanding. Parents need to ensure the monies for 2017/2018 are paid as these are expenses already incurred on your child’s behalf to include art, photocopying, books, IT subscriptions etc. A failure to make this payment will compromise the provision for all children in the school as Department funding does not sufficiently cover the running costs in schools. https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/education/revealed-how-much-parents-actually-pay-for-free-primary-education-36833508.html

STEM

The STEM Project for April is to design your own game or toy using a cereal box. We are having great fun in the school looking at the variety of projects coming in for STEM, keep up the good work!

CETNS Assembly

Congratulations to the Senior Infant Classes for hosting a wonderful assembly all about the Marine Environment and International Women’s day. We all learnt a lot, laughed a lot & were very impressed with their presence in front of such a large audience. Well done to all & remember to dare to dream, we can do anything we put our minds to whether male or female.

The 3rd Class Assembly takes place at 9.30am this Friday, 27th April. We hope to see as many of the 3rd Class parents there as possible and they look forward to hosting this for you.

Volunteers needed

If you are available & interested in volunteering in the school we urge you to arrange Garda Vetting. We need parents who may be available to offer lifts to groups of children to various sporting venues over the next few weeks.

We are looking for a couple of parents who may be interested in supporting our gardening group during lunchtimes either at 12:25-12:55pm or 1-1:30pm. Please let Siobhán in the office know if you can help. Minimal gardening experience required. Thank you.

Parent-Teacher Association

The next PTA meeting will take place in the school hall on Wednesday 16th May at 7.30.

This will be an open meeting so all welcome. Looking forward to seeing you there.
