Introduction
Castleknock Educate Together National School started simply as an ambition of a few interested parents in the community who organised a public meeting in November 1998 in co-operation with the national Educate Together body. A very positive response led to a pre-enrolment day in February 1999. The large pre-enrolment numbers confirmed a need for an additional national school in the Dublin 15 area with an Educate Together ethos. Approximately 10 months later the school opened its doors in temporary premises with 2 classrooms and 2 teachers, Dermot P. Higgins, Principal and Lucy Keaveney, First Assistant Teacher.
We moved into our new permanent building in April 2007. Our address is

Educate Together
Our school is a member of the Educate Together sector. As an Educate Together school we are guided by the four main principles as follows: multi-denominational, co-educational, child-centred and democratically run. These principles are explained in detail in the link "Educate Together Ethos". The school promotes a respect for people from all social and cultural groups and for all religious and non-religious beliefs.
School Administration
The school was established by a group of interested parents who started an association and then formed a limited company as the school patron. The formation of a limited company is a requirement of the Department of Education and Science.
The Executive committee is the patron of the school and the guardian of its ethos.
The Board of Management looks after the day to day running of the school. The board is comprised of Principal, teacher representative, parent representatives, patron representatives and members of the wider community
A Parent Association has also been set up.
School Curriculum
The school follows the rules of the National School Curriculum. The Department of Education and Science require us to provide a religious education programme in the school. We call this the Learn Together programme. It supports and implements the guiding principles of the school by covering a wide range of religious, moral, social and ethical issues, with no specific emphasis on any one religion.
The School Hours
The hours will be as follows:
Junior & Senior Infants 9:00am. To 1:40 pm
1st Class to 6th Class 9:00am. To 2:40 pm
There are 2 breaks scheduled during the school day. There is a mid-morning break and a half hour lunch break. There is a healthy eating policy within the school.
Clothing
There is no school uniform. In line with the school ethos, children will be educated to accept all people irrespective of a dress code. It also helps towards non-gender stereotyping.
Parent/Teacher Communication
The healthiest environment for a child is one of open and easy communication between parents and teachers. Parents/Guardians are encouraged and welcome to discuss matters relating to their child with the relevant class teacher. Parents should agree a convenient time with the teacher if the need arises.
Parental Help
The children and school can benefit greatly from parental involvement. If you have any time and/or skills to contribute then please speak with the school staff or member of the Board of Management or to any member of the Parents Association. All offers of help are welcome.
Out of School Activities
There will be regularly planned out of school activities during the year in order to enrich your child’s education. This would be a particular area where parental involvement would be very welcome.
