4th Class Update written by Max and Neher
Over the past few months, our class has been working extremely hard to earn our pen licences. Every single day we practised our neat cursive handwriting. We focused on forming our letters correctly, joining them neatly, and making sure our work was tidy and well presented. It took patience, concentration and lots of effort.
When our teacher felt we were ready, we were given a very special task. We had to choose an inspirational woman from history, research her life, and write a detailed report about her achievements and why she is important. Some of the incredible women we learned about were Rosa Parks, who stood up for civil rights; Helen Keller, who overcame great challenges; Amelia Earhart, a brave pilot; Florence Nightingale, who transformed nursing; and Marie Curie, a pioneering scientist.
We carefully planned and drafted our reports. We edited our spelling, improved our sentences, and redrafted our work a few times to make sure it was the best it could be. This helped us understand the importance of perseverance and always trying to improve. Finally, after all our hard work, we were allowed to write our finished reports in pen. Earning our pen licences made us feel proud and responsible. It showed us that dedication and perseverance really do pay off.
We also started to prepare for Seachtain na Gaeilge in our class. We learned how countries all around the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by lighting up famous landmarks in green to honour Ireland. You can see two slides behind us showing pictures of our work and the famous landmarks we studied. During our art lessons, we drew and coloured some of these amazing landmarks, including the Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Dublin Spire, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Burj Khalifa, Big Ben and the Pyramids of Giza along with many others. Please take a look at our displays and come by our corridor to see our work up close.
