Owls & Hawks visit CETNS!

Today, Colin Travers visited our school with a wonderful selection of owls and hawks including a 2 week old Great Grey Owl!

He delivered an engaging and educational presentation with his variety of birds. We met a hawk named Captain America, a tawny owl named Cookie, a Eurasian Eagle-Owl (largest owl) named Beast, a white faced owl named Ash, a barn owl, and the baby great grey owl!

He shared very interesting facts about the different species, including their habitats, diets, hunting skills and unique characteristics. He also told us how we can protect these beautiful birds by not using slug pellets or rodent poison in our gardens.

Every class in the school were fascinated by the birds and really enjoyed the opportunity to see them up close. The barn owl enjoyed some flying in our school hall! He flew from Colin to a teacher in each session! A particular highlight of the visit was the chance for the children to touch/hold the birds under Colin’s supervision, creating a memorable hands-on learning experience.

We would like to thank Colin for sharing his knowledge, expertise and passion for these magnificent birds of prey. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative visit that was greatly appreciated by all in CETNS.
