What a day to remember for our incredible CETNS Girls' Soccer Team, who were crowned champions after a thrilling final at the AUL Grounds!
The match was an absolute nail-biter from start to finish. It ended 1-1 after full time, with both teams showing grit, determination, and fantastic skill. From the first whistle, it was clear we were in for a competitive and hard-fought contest. Every single player gave it their all, with our girls playing through knocks and injuries, never once dropping their heads and always backing each other up. Their teamwork and resilience were inspiring to watch.
Huge thanks must go to our dedicated coaches, Ailish and Éilish, whose hard work, encouragement, and belief in the team were instrumental in getting them to the final and over the line.
With the match still level after extra time, it all came down to penalties. The tension was sky-high, but the girls held their nerve brilliantly. Each penalty was expertly taken, including one coolly slotted in after a retake, with not a single miss from either side during the first five rounds.
At 5-5, it was sudden death, after Aoife T, Annie, Aoife Ní, Julia, and Sofia scored for our team.
Sara calmly stepped up and confidently buried CETNS' sixth penalty, putting all the pressure back on the opposition. And then came the moment of magic – our goalkeeper Abby stood tall, fearless and focused, and made a stunning save to win the game!
Cue the celebrations! Joint captains Annie and Julia proudly lifted the trophy to the cheers and applause of their teammates and our fantastic supporters who travelled to cheer the team on.
We are so proud of each and every one of the girls – what a performance, what a team, what a day!
