Last Friday was Space Day, May 5th. 1st class have been working hard to earn their space badges, learning all about the Solar System!
First, we studied the planets in order of their distance from the sun. We used oil pastels in our art lesson to create out of this world pictures.
We also crafted a 3D Solar System mobile that we proudly hung in our classroom for all to see!
Next, we learnt about the phases of the moon using.. Oreo cookies! Which resulted in a total eclipse once we ate them all!
We discovered that the sun has many functions and could even be used to tell time! The students took their group's sundial's out to the yard and kept track throughout the day of where the sun's shadow moved. Although we had to look very closely to see through the clouds!
Lastly, we learnt all about the life of an astronaut by exploring the NASA website and reading about daily life on the International Space Station. We then wrote diary entries of our own space adventures and finally received our space badges!
Keep an eye out for future space missions, you just might see an astronaut from CETNS Room 6!
