CETNS Cross-Country Running
CETNS participated in the Brother Schools Cross-Country Event in Trinity Sports Ground last Wednesday, 5th October. Despite the inclement weather which threatened to disrupt the day’s proceedings, it was a fantastic occasion organised by Clonliffe Harriers AC. We had nearly sixty pupils from our 4th, 5th and 6th classes taking part on the day. Each race was run over a distance of 1,000 metres which really tested all of the children’s stamina. Every one of them performed with so much grit, determination and heart over a course that was heavy and mucky due to the rain that had fallen. Despite the pain and sheer effort that it took to complete each race, there were plenty of proud smiles and high-fives afterwards which was wonderful to see.
It was a day full of brave and incredible performances. A couple of children picked themselves up after taking heavy falls and kept going, and others crossed the finishing line with a mixture of stitches and injuries. One thing is for sure, the pupils of CETNS are made of seriously tough stuff. The CETNS team spirit and camaraderie that was on display throughout the day was a joy to behold with lots of children screaming and cheering on their classmates. As a school community, we can be very proud of all the children that participated on the day, and of all the children that took part in the school races during the previous week. We look forward with enthusiasm to our next cross-country outing.
CETNS Cross-Country Report by Maisy Oja and Magdalena Venkova
On Wednesday the fifth of October nearly sixty children from 4th, 5th and 6th class went to the cross-country race in Santry. When we went into the classroom we were so excited that we couldn’t stay still in our seats. Finally, we were called down to the hall. Within five minutes we were all on the double-decker bus all ready to go. Eventually, we arrived at our destination but of course it started raining (perfect weather for cross country) but that didn’t stop the enthusiastic children of CETNS.
Fourth-class girls were first to run. It was tough but they all managed to finish it perfectly and most importantly were proud of themselves while all of the other classes cheered them on supportively. Second to go were fourth-class boys with Senan from Claire and Paula’s class running a fantastic race and finishing first. But all the other boys did a fantastic job. After that were the girls from fifth-class with all of them finishing strongly. Next were the boys from fifth-class who all managed to come in the top thirty. Eventually, we were up. Nervous but very excited, we all lined up on the starting line. Magdalena from Eugenia’s sixth class did a fantastic run and managed to claim third place. Last but definitely not least were the boys from sixth class. Lined up at the starting line the boys could hear the roars of encouragement screamed by all of the other classes in their warm t-shirts that we had each received for finishing our races.
Just before we left we took a big group photo to remember this fantastic event. Sadly the event finished and we all got back on the bus. Most children did their homework on the bus and ate the rest of their lunches.
All the children from the cross country would like to thank all the teachers who came and especially JP for organising this wonderful event.
