Green Team of Action

The Green Team were very busy on Wednesday and Thursday this week. We started with COWOW - Cycle or Walk on Wednesday and it was great to see so many boys and girls cycling and walking to school.

We planted flower and vegetable seeds, painted flower bed, painted loads of ladybird stones and some fairy doors too (thanks Romey), beautiful butterflies were put on the prefab (thanks Paula). We started to paint our giant cable reels, cleaned up around the school grounds, weeded all over and especially around the outdoor classroom, made a fairy garden and a dinosaur patch. The Green Team and some extra helpers played a storm and we are very proud of our hard work. Thanks also to the teachers, Paula, Jen, David, John and all their helpers who helped out, as well as all the artists who painted. Our work is not finished yet as we still have to put up our fairy doors and make another dinosaur patch. We hope many of our pupils will enjoy these new areas of interest in our school.

Elaine

Thanks also to Samantha Mooney & the Mormon Church group who came in on a glorious Saturday to help continue the good work in our school grounds. Many children and adults helped weed the remaining beds in front of the poly-tunnel and outdoor classroom, took down broken climber frames and cut back dead climbing plants in front of the prefab and some seeds/plants were planted in boxes also. A special thank you to Rosemary & Abby who painted the giant cable reels. Have a look in the yard to see how talented they areJ. Thanks again Samantha for organising this event, it’s greatly appreciated by all & lovely to see so many families working alongside each other to improve our school grounds.

Scientific Sue

On Thursday 24th of May we went to our hall where a lady called Scientific Sue showed us loads of experiments. The first experiment was a taste experiment where she made hot chocolate but used spices and she got a volunteer to taste it. She added chilli, rosewater and orange. The taster said she enjoyed it.

The second experiment was on acids and using weak and strong acids and alkalines to make a neutral liquid change colour. Then she talked a bit about the ejector seat and the man who invented it and then she filled a big plastic bottle with gas and blew up the gas and it went on fire for a few seconds but it was safe and everybody was blown away.

The final experiment was when we made our own rocket. We made it out of a bottle, with pressure we pumped air into it. After about 6 or 7 pumps it rocketed the bottle across the hall and almost hit the window. Everyone loved the show and we all learned something new!

Orchestra concert in Rush

On Thursday 17th May the school orchestra got to play in a concert in Rush. Everybody was excited, because we were performing on stage. We were the opening orchestra. We played a piece called Polish Carol. We also played Beethoven’s Ode To Joy and two South American pieces called Cha Cha Cha and Tango. We all enjoyed performing on stage and we give a special thanks to Romey for encouraging us to play instruments and another thanks to Romey for organising everything for us.

Thanks again, Matteo & CETNS Orchestra

On the 18th May 2018, CETNS orchestra went to St. Catherine's School in Rush to play in a choral Festival. When we arrived there, there was a workshop going on. We learned different songs. When the workshop finished everyone filed out to go to separate classrooms to practise , tune and prepare. We had a few snacks and chatted for a while.

Suddenly it was showtime! We brought our instruments and placed ourselves on the stage. We played Ode to Joy, Polish Carol, Tango and Cha Cha Cha. When we finished playing we took a bow and went off the stage. We had a party and Karen had to take a panoramic picture to get us all in. It was really fun and an experience I will never forget.

CETNS Athletics @ Santry Stadium

The Santry Track Day took place on Monday 28th May. Forty children went and were a credit to the school. They all tried their very best on a very hot day and their behaviour was excellent. Competition out in Santry was of a very high standard. Clara and Mei-Mei got through to their respective individual finals. Four of the eight relay teams got into their respective finals. Our U-12 Boys' team consisting of James Cremin, Daniel Fuad, Mubarak Isamotu, Nadir Ghanem and Harry Maxwell finished 4th in their final and won a medal. We also had two 5th place finishes and a 6th place finish.

6th Class Graduation & 5th Class Helpers

A request was sent home in schoolbags today asking for help from 5th class parents for the 6th class graduation night. It is customary for 5th class parents to assist on the night as we hope 5th class parents will assist you when your child is graduating.

Day of Celebration & 1st Class Helpers

As above, the 2nd class children will have their Day of Celebration and 2nd class parents are seeking help from 1st class parents to assist on the night.

PTA

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise a fun filled day at the school Summer Fair yesterday, the weather certainly helped the event proceed seamlessly better than expected. It was a great fun day for all. We pass our thanks on to Tonya, PTA Chairperson & her team of volunteers.

Proposed Winter Fair

The Board of Management and the PTA at CETNS are happy to announce a Winter Fair this year to take place on the 25th November. We hope this will be a true celebration of winter with traditional stalls selling winter goodies, hot winter drinks, warming winter sausages as well as carol singers, marsh mellow roasting and even a visit from Santa Claus.

To make it a unique experience we would like to get the students and parents involved in creating the fair. We would like each class to create a winter costume for class members which they will wear on the day. In keeping with the school ethos we will have a recycling theme so that costumes will all be made from recycled materials with a prize for the best costumes made.

To feed their entrepreneural spirit we will encourage 4th, 5th and 6th classes to come up with a mini business project idea to produce something to sell on the day. The project will involve the planning/documenting and realisation of the business idea. The idea that is judged most successful will win a school prize and could be entered for regional and national competitions. On top of that, will have all the usual favourite fair ideas like book stalls, winter art displays, bake sales, Christmas present raffles and much more.

At the moment we have three committee members Leisha MacDonald, Billy Quane and myself. We are looking for two or three others who could manage projects for the fair. Further ideas for the fair are most welcome too. We will also need parents and teachers to get involved in the costume making, recycling theme, art display as well as the mini business projects. If you feel you would enjoy getting involved please contact me at ianbrangan@gmail.com Ian Brangan
