Dear Parents/Guardians,
Despite COVID-19 restrictions, children and staff are bringing as much festive cheer to school life every day as we can. I know the children are enjoying themselves, which has been challenging considering this is the time normally of concerts and get-togethers. Nonetheless, we are in the midst of a global pandemic and need to continue to take all the precautions we can to keep each other safe. They will have tales to tell when they are older about their experiences in school during this time!
Usually this term, we look to society to see those who are in need of our supports at this time of year and as usual we have concentrated on charities that enable us to do this as a school. We are looking to support Focus Ireland by hosting a Christmas Jumper day in the school on Wednesday 16th December and we are asking anyone who wishes to support the charity to make a donation of any amount they can for this worthy cause. A link will be sent out tomorrow to donate through Aladdin.
We also support the Blanchardstown branch of St Vincent de Paul with the food appeal but due to COVID-19 restrictions this year they have asked for a financial donation instead. We are happy to pass this request on as there will be many families struggling financially this year in particular in light of current economic circumstances.
A link will be sent out tomorrow to allow you donate online to either of these charities.
Lastly we support the Shoebox Appeal & we are happy to take in Shoeboxes for this appeal by Friday 18th December so they can quarantine in the school building over the weekend before passing them on to Inner City Helping Homeless.
While we support all three of these charities annually, please don’t feel pressured to do so. We are happy to facilitate the opportunity for the school to do so but we fully understand circumstances are very different this year for families in our school, in the country and indeed globally. I want to thank the Green & Student Council teams for the work they put into these events at a very busy time of year. (Please see back of this newsletter for further information on all charities mentioned.)
Congratulations to Éadaoin’s 5th class last year
They got through to the finals of the Young Environmentalist Awards 2020. They put a huge amount of work into their projects which they couldn't present in the end because COVID-19 intervened. The children didn't quite get the recognition for their efforts they would have due to the school closure. We hope this mention in the newsletter will fill them with pride and we’d like to congratulate them on behalf of all children, staff and parents in the school.
The YEA 2020 posted 6 Mountain Ash (Rowan) sapling trees to the school this week as an award for getting so far. We are going to plant them around the school grounds and we hope they will be very proud to see them as they grow over the years to come.
Maith sibh a pháistí we’ll celebrate the award in a nice way over the coming days!
Congratulations to all the páistí throughout the school
We have been awarded an Active Flag for our Daily Mile initiative. We are definitely running out of flagpole space these days between Green Flags, Blue Flags and now our Daily Mile Flag. I would like to congratulate the children on their dedication to participation in such a healthy initiative. I know the daily mile around the school yard is enjoyed by all and there are personal best records being broken daily at this stage. It really does show that a little every day goes a very long way to building our fitness. Comhghairdeachas libh a pháistí!
School Visit
Recently the school had a visit from the Department Inspectorate to assess our work to ensure the safe re-opening of the school due to COVID-19 restrictions on behalf of the Health & Safety Authority. As we were assessed during the pilot stage of this programme we were unsure what the assessment would involve. We were very pleased to hear we were commended for all the hard work we have undertaken in ensuring we manage the restrictions well. In particular the children are to be praised for their dedication to handwashing & sanitising routines which have not fallen in standards. We would sincerely like to thank all parents for informing us of illnesses via the emailing systems and in observing the stricter conditions to our normal arrangements around children staying at home when sick. We thank you for continuing to update us via the covid@cetns.ie email also. In particular on your behalf I would like to sincerely thank the staff under the watchful and careful monitoring of the Lead Workers Mary & Jim who have made sure we are managing this new aspect of our work as successfully as we have done so far. It is no small achievement handwashing 28 sets of hands repeatedly throughout a given day alongside the washing down of surfaces after every use and everyone is doing it with a great big smile. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir!

Focus Ireland
Christmas Jumper Day Wednesday 16th December 2020
This Christmas will be strange and difficult for us all. But for families in homelessness, it will be even worse.
Here in CETNS, we are supporting Focus Ireland by wearing our Christmas Jumpers or decorating our jumpers with tinsel or lights on Wednesday 16th December, and donating money to Focus Ireland.
If you would like to support Focus Ireland, you may donate through Aladdin, the link will be sent to you tomorrow.
St. Vincent de Paul
Because of Covid 19, we cannot donate food to SVP, as we normally would.
Instead they are asking if anyone wishes to make a financial donation, they would be most grateful, and again, all donations will go towards supporting families who need it most. you may donate through Aladdin, the link will be sent to you tomorrow.
ICCH Shoebox Appeal
Children have already brought in so many Shoeboxes. Again, we are amazed at your generosity!
These will be donated to Inner City Helping Homeless after Friday 18th December.
Many, Many thanks for your support and generosity.
Beir bua,
Aedín
