Dear Parents/Guardians,

6th Class Show

The excitement in mounting here at CETNS as both 6th classes continue with rehearsals for their production of Mary Poppins. Both shows will take place at 7pm each night on Wednesday & Thursday 23rd & 24th May. Entry to the school hall will be €4 per person or €10 per family of 4 for an evening at 17 Cherrytree Lane, London, with Mary Poppins, the Banks family, Bert and Bertie and a host of interesting characters.

The funds raised will cover the costs of the production and any monies remaining will be put towards the 6th class graduation fund. A souvenir programme will be available on the night for €3 also. 5th classes are supporting the 6th classes in this production and learning a lot about acting while they do so! Thank you to those supporting Peter, Liz & JP as they work hard to complete this mammoth task over the next few weeks.

CETNS Assembly

Congratulations to both 3rd Classes for hosting a wonderful assembly all about Autism Awareness. We all learnt a lot and were very impressed with their knowledge. Well done to you all, we can help each other to do anything when we all work together. Our Light it up Blue Assembly was a real treat & the display in the foyer is great to have.

Our last Learn Together assembly will take place 8th June hosted by the junior infants.

Resources Monies

There are still a number of resource payments outstanding for children in the school. All parents need to ensure the monies for 2017/2018 are paid as these expenses have already been incurred on your child’s behalf & the school year is almost complete. The Board will have to look at cutting back on programmes on offer to all classes as this payment is factored into resources provided to the children.

School Orchestra

The CETNS orchestra will perform in a Choral Festival in St. Catherine's National School, Rush, next Thursday evening. The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are €7.50 each. Half the proceeds will be going to the fundraising efforts of Dermot Higgins (former principal of CETNS). Dermot has recently returned from a solo cycle around the world and he is fundraising for Trócaire. The orchestra are very excited to be taking part in this annual festival and will be delighted to see some friendly faces in the audience if you are free to go along.

Board of Management Update

Training took place for members of PTA & some BOM members were in attendance. Matters of school finances were discussed and in particular resource monies payments, ICT equipment. We hope this year’s Summer Fair monies will be put towards purchase of Power Hour books & Friends Programme in the school. The voting slips to elect the male parent nominee will be sent out early next week with information about all candidates.

Green School News

Green Team Notice

Dear Parents,

We are writing this short notice to inform you of a few changes we will be making this year. We have thought about these changes to help pupils learn and to benefit the environment:

#1 The Green team has decided that we will be banning slime.

#2 We recommend buying reusable water bottles because we have been finding single use water bottles on yard.

#3 We have banned popcorn, because the popcorn is spilling on the yard and the plastic bags are bad for the environment.

#4 We are announcing this month’s STEM project is: Design something that the school can use as a feature in our garden

#5 From the 2nd of June, we will ask kids to bring in their own small towel in a resealable bags with their name on it. This is to dry our hands instead of using the blue non-recyclable tissues.

#6 We are asking you if you could bring in your old toys so we can make a fairy garden on the yard.

Thank You From The Green Team!

April & May STEM Projects

Thank you to all of our budding engineers who participated in our April STEM project which was entitled 'What can you make out of a box?' Imaginative thinking resulted in a wide variety of creations enjoyed by all. The STEM project for May is to make an outdoor toy/decoration for your garden or the school grounds e.g., a fairy door for a tree, painted stones, fabric bunting. This will link in with our Green School Day of Action which will take place on the 6th of June.

School Prize from Engineers Ireland

CETNS is one of 5 schools in the country to have been recently awarded 2 engineering shows for our school. Engineers Ireland have been very impressed with the STEM in every classroom in our school and with our new STEM family projects. We are looking forward to welcoming Scientific Sue to our school.

Plaque of STEM Excellence

We are also delighted to announce that CETNS has been awarded a Plaque of STEM Excellence by the Science Foundation of Ireland. Our digital logbook application showed all the fantastic work done in each classroom in Science, Maths, Engineering, Maths. Our Intel Mini Scientist STEM showcase was also detailed. Many thanks to the teachers for submitting very interesting classwork for our application. We were very happy to get the opportunity to show all the very interesting STEM work and the award acknowledges our efforts.

Santry Track & Field Days & Volunteers needed

If you are available & interested in volunteering to help us keep costs down for children attending Santry Sports Stadium over the 2 days track & field events, May 21st & May 28th we need parents who may be available to offer lifts to groups of children. If you can help please let the office know by Friday via email or via your child’s homework diary. We will need to know what date you are available to drive & how many spaces you have in your car. Thank you for your help, JP.

6th Class Graduation

The 6th class graduation takes place on Thursday 21st June 2018 from 7 pm -10 pm in the school hall. It is a very special occasion to celebrate our children, their achievements, friendships and memories from their years spent at Castleknock Educate Together National School.

Traditionally, the parents of 5th class assist on the night, by serving food, moving furniture after the ceremony and getting the hall ready for the children’s disco. This enables the parents of 6th class to relax, enjoy the evening and their children reaching such an important milestone.

The 6th class graduation committee would be grateful if 5th class parents would volunteer to help on the evening. Please let Sheena, Charlie’s mum (Éadaoin’s class) or Nuala, Cian’s mum (Ailish’s class) know as soon as possible if you are available. Thank you

Parent-Teacher Association

Dear Parents, The Summer Fair taking place on June 10th is fast approaching. We are asking as many parents as possible to get involved in helping out. There is a lot of organisation that takes place over the next 4 weeks in the run up to the day, and also a lot of smaller jobs to do, on the day, to ensure the smooth running of the Fair. Any parents that can help out and volunteer, please let me know either by email or at the next PTA meeting.

The next PTA meeting will take place on May 16th at 7:30pm in the school hall. This is an open meeting to all parents, come along and get involved. All Welcome
