The ‘FRIENDS for Life’ programme is a school-based positive health and wellness programme. Through participating, children develop their emotional intelligence, and learn invaluable skills to enable them to cope with the many demands of 21st Century life. The programme helps improves social skills, ability to focus, confidence, communication skills, and the ability to relax and regulate emotions. It is proven to reduce anxiety and give children the tools they need to cope in stressful and challenging situations. It is recommended by the World Health Organisation due to its well documented success in research worldwide.
Within school, it fits into the SPHE curriculum and is delivered in 10 - 12 sessions, by teachers who have received a full two days of training.
In the 2016-17 school year, it was piloted in a small group setting in CETNS and this year has been delivered in fifth and second classes. Feedback from the children and their parents has been extremely positive.
In order for the children to really benefit and get the best from the programme, it is essential that it is encouraged and supported by the family. To this end, we ran two parent sessions for second class parents which were very well attended. If you were unable to attend, you can learn more about FRIENDS FOR LIFE using the following links.
